Version 6 - Upgraded Multi language Version
New features in PathWiz! 6
Exhibit Catalogues are now available in website HTML format (see a small example) - for use on your own PC with links to open the original exhibits (provided they are available on that PC) from within your browser - or for use on the WWW with e.g. an option to exclude exhibits attached to Living Persons.
These PathWiz! created exhibit HTML pages can also easily be linked to from Second Site created web pages via its Pages > Links > User Links function.
A number of other
options are
also available.
The new PicView is a convenient picture viewer that can be opened in PathWiz! to show details of image files in any chosen folder on your PC or on a Networked PC - a CSV file with the details of images in the chosen folder may also be created
View accented TMG allows you to open TMG from within PathWiz! to view persons that have at least one exhibit attached, highlighted by a TMG accent - particularly useful in Picklist and Project Explorer.
IDRange: You can now filter for person exhibits attached to a specific range of TMG Person ID numbers, making it possible to print and/or edit exhibits for just one person or a limited group of persons at a time.
Step 4 now also allows you to include All exhibit types at once - which can also be filtered by IDRange, 'Missing Only' and/or 'Primary Only' - in reports and for easier modification in [View/Modify].
Added a printer setting facility for reports to accommodate US letter size as well as A4 size.
Also: Fixed a bug that was causing an error in the messages during a [Commit] sequence under specific circumstances.
After careful consideration the following changes have also been made in Version 6:
The exhibit number as it exists in TMG will not be changed by PathWiz! version 6 and later.
Since exhibit display reordering has also been introduced in TMG Version 6 after the routines for PathWiz! were written, that capability has been removed from PathWiz!
In all other respects PathWiz! will continue to operate as advertised.
Version 6.1.1 Update
Under certain circumstances Filters (for Event exhibits and others) caused an error - if you are effected, please contact BeeSoft to receive download information for a new executable file.
Main Changes in V 6.1.0:
New and changed features at user requests:
- Internal image and text exhibits can now be extracted and saved to the disk as a self-contained file.
- TMG ID up to 10 digits now accommodated in all situations.
- Principal 1 TMG No's are now shown on Event exhibits details in reports.
- Sorting by Principal 1 in reports reflects ID No not the name.
- CSV output file rows are now pre-sorted by TMG ID.
- CSV sort always indicated on Report Options Screen as by TMG ID.
- CSV output file column headings more readable.
- Filtered report options screen can now be re-entered without having to reselect and [Process] the same filter.
Other Changes:
- Process button on Step5 moved to right ( ready for a new next release feature )
- Other detail changes to form operation.
Bug Fixes:
- CSV output enabled
- MSWord and CSV Reports generated to the correct folder.
- TMG ID in [View/Modify] corrected when an older dataset is being used.
- Duplicated Caption entries in HTML reports fixed.
PathWiz! operations overview
The following is a general description of PathWiz! operation - see screen shots in the Help pages for more detail. (Release version's screens may differ slightly from those shown here)
The PathWiz! program is an exhibit and path management tool which allows you to access a TMG Version 5 or 6 project database table ( dbf ) containing paths to and information attached to exhibits ( graphical images and other files ) stored anywhere on your local PC. If you are changing computer storage arrangements or sending your backup (sqz) files to a chart printing service you may wish to consolidate all the required image files into one folder.
In addition, the ability to directly edit the Topic, Reference, Description and Caption fields of a list of related exhibits (for example - External Images attached to persons) from one screen with the ability to see the actual images both internal and external provided they are available.
On the way a 'Comprehensive Exhibit Catalogue' may be produced both internally and in MSWord - effectively an inventory of all exhibits.
The PathWiz! program operates in a number of steps and maintains complete
protection of your original data files. TMG itself will be closed during use of
PathWiz!
Please note:
As PathWiz! is designed to allow you to alter details of exhibits in your TMG projects (which may contain one or more data sets), we would always advise you to create a backup of a project in TMG before you begin using PathWiz!
Alternatively, you may prefer to work on a copy of your project whilst leaving your main project untouched until you have completed your changes. When you are happy with your changes you can then designate the copy to be your main project.
PathWiz! allows you to work on both, unlocked and locked data sets (i.e. if you wish to produce a specific report from a locked data set), however, if you choose to refresh a locked data set in TMG's Data Set Manager changes made in the locked data set will be lost.
The following descriptions of steps are expanded on and illustrated in the HELP within PathWiz! or view them online here
The 10 STEPS in using the program are:-
STEP 1
Select the folder your TMG project data files are in (each location is saved for later quick selection).
STEP 2
The appropriate TMG database table or tables ( _I.dbf) will show in a combo box for your selection.
STEP 3
Produce a 'Summary of Exhibits' report so that you know what Exhibits you have deep down in your project.
You can also view a 'Chart of Exhibits' of the
distribution.
Undertake some 'Global Changes'
- create a Catalogue of Exhibits
- change the drive letter for all existing images
- edit all images with your default editor from one screen using your usual favourite image editor
- renumber your exhibits to change the order in which they appear (e.g. in reports)
- delete unwanted exhibits from one screen by simply selecting each in a grid (list) environment
- create a file of details concerning exhibits for existing persons in your project and import in one operation
- Save the paths used by TMG for this project on this computer in a file to reuse them with one simple operation (e.g. if you're using TMG on several computers with different storage needs)
STEP 4
You can choose to work with a particular set of exhibits (filter).
STEP 5
Press the [Process] Button to put your choices into effect.
STEP 6
You can choose to preview or print a report of the EXISTING entries or write a text file to disk to save paper. Separate reports are available for each classification
STEP 7
Clicking the View/Change Item button
The existing path, file name and details for the chosen type of entries are presented in a grid. Just doubleclick on the item you wish to change the details for.
You will be offered a choice of changing just that entry or ALL entries having that original folder. You can also simply change the drive letter for a current folder.
You will be able to view exhibits both internal and external (provided they are accessible) with an image zoom capability.
You will also be able to modify the Topic, Reference ,Description and Caption fields from the same screen
Sound and movie exhibits will play as normal from this screen.
If you have an image editor or video editor associated you can choose to EDIT your exhibit files also.
OLE objects can be viewed also.
You can replace an image with a new one
STEP 8
The [Test-Update Records] button will insert the NEW information into the temporary database and show the number of entries updated.
You will be able to select a Changes Report also
which is a log of each change made.
You can choose to go round again and change other details before 'committing'.
STEP 9
Once you are totally satisfied that you have ALL the correct entries you can press the [Commit] button which will put the whole temporary database to a file (myproject_I.dbf).
STEP 10
If anything is not as wanted you can press [Revert] to use your original _I.dbf
file again"

We are also looking for volunteers to translate HELP to Dutch and Norwegian:
This can be done in a csv file containing the plain text of the HELP pages which can be
opened in a spreadsheet and added to. If anyone is able to assist with
translation for Dutch or Norwegian that would be greatly appreciated - please contact us here - we will

'I have used it (an early beta) successfully to unpick several projects that have been moved from one machine to a new one where the old Exhibit paths were no longer valid.' Other comments here My thanks to Robin Lamacraft for technical assistance in developing this tool and hosting these pages and Astrid Kranzbuhler for many hours of debugging and for maintaining these pages and Astrid, Harry and Torlief for the translations - all wonderful people from the TMG community.
